About Kyoto
At Kyoto Group, we believe in a world powered by nature. Named after the Kyoto Protocol, we carry forward its legacy of global climate action, driving the shift toward a cleaner, more sustainable industrial future.

Our mission is to empower industries with renewable thermal energy. Through our innovative thermal battery technology, we enable companies to replace fossil fuels with clean electricity for efficient, reliable, and affordable heat production.

By storing renewable energy as heat and releasing it when needed, we unlock the full potential of wind and solar power, helping industries operate sustainably around the clock.

About the role
The Operations Field Manager leads Kyoto’s Heatcube operations across multiple sites, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable performance. With a strong electrical and instrumentation engineering background, you will manage field operations, oversee maintenance, and support commissioning of new installations. You will also use Kyoto’s operational data management platform and predictive analytics tools to improve performance, reliability, and enable condition-based maintenance across the Heatcube fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Lead field operations teams to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable Heatcube operations, promoting a strong culture of safety, accountability, and technical excellence.
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance activities, ensuring effective scheduling, resourcing, and follow-up.
  • Apply structured root cause analysis to solve operational issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Use Kyoto’s operational data management platform to monitor performance, identify trends, and drive improvements.
  • Oversee and maintain accurate logs and operational data to support reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Lead process optimization and PID/control fine-tuning to enhance performance, energy efficiency, and operational stability.
  • Report on operational performance, highlighting reliability, efficiency, and cost improvements.
  • Lead and support commissioning and start-up of new Heatcube installation.
  • Plan and manage system modifications and upgrades, from feasibility through implementation and operational validation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, HSE, and Service teams to align operations with standards and best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, promoting standardization, learning, and best practices across all Heatcube sites.

Required skills &  experiences

  • Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Process Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 10+ years’ experience in operations and maintenance within power, process, or thermal industries.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and ensure safe, reliable operations.
  • Solid understanding of electrical systems, controls, and instrumentation, including PID tuning and control optimization.
  • Experience with operational data management platforms, SCADA/DCS systems, and performance monitoring tools.
  • Skilled in predictive analytics, condition-based monitoring, and data-driven maintenance improvement.
  • Competence in root cause analysis (RCA), FMEA, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong background in maintenance planning, field coordination, and system modifications.
  • Skilled in data analysis and reporting, including KPIs and financial tracking.

About us

Kyoto Group

Founded in 2016, Kyoto is a Norwegian company dedicated to harnessing the vast potential of variable renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power. Our mission is to leverage this clean energy to reduce the CO2 emissions associated with industrial thermal loads significantly. We are pioneering the integration of thermal sales and flexibility into a single product, positioning Kyoto as a competitive leader in the thermal industry. Our unique approach allows us to offer both heat sales and flexibility solutions, making a sustainable future more attainable.

Market & Products

Kyoto's core strategy involves selling and operating Heatcube thermal batteries, which enable industrial consumption of low-cost heat derived from surplus solar and wind energy (i.e., during periods of low-priced electricity). Additionally, Kyoto operates an Energy Management System—a remote-control solution that optimises renewable energy consumption for cost efficiency and carbon neutrality. Our dual focus is to provide end-users with an affordable, carbon-neutral heat product while offering balancing services and flexibility solutions to power producers and grid operators.

Culture & Values

At Kyoto Group, our values are the cornerstone of our identity, guiding our daily actions. We deeply care for our people and planet, reflecting our commitment to a sustainable future. Our unwavering determination fuels our ambition, driving us to focus on solutions instead of problems. We approach every endeavour dedicated to making a positive impact with enthusiasm and passion.
